The Indian government recently announced the recipients of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards, the highest honor conferred on overseas Indians. Included in the list are two Indian Americans - FedEx Corporation CEO Rajesh Subramaniam and businessman and philanthropist Darshan Singh Dhaliwal.
Dhaliwal, originally from Punjab, immigrated to the US in 1972. He along with his brothers started their business in gasoline and real estate sectors. By 2004, his business grew to include over 1,000 petrol stations spread over 11 states, with annual sales of US$2 billion.
