Trailblazers to address & perform at Impact Gala

IA Impact's annual event will host renowned individuals from diverse fields to mark centennial anniversary of the landmark case United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind on U.S. citizenship.

The Indian American Impact Project American Impact (IA Impact) announced the lineup for its upcoming annual event,‘2023 Summit and Gala: The Next 100 Years’, which is scheduled to be held on June 6, 2023, in Washington, DC.

According to an official statement, the event will feature sessions by South Asian trailblazers including civil rights leader, Valarie Kaur, who will be the keynote speaker at the event. Born to Punjabi Sikh farmers in California, Kaur has led visionary campaigns to tell untold stories and change policy on issues ranging from hate crimes to digital freedom. President Biden named her as one of 16 leaders whose work is healing America Kaur during the first-ever Uniters Ceremony.

Other speakers include Tuckered Out founder Ami Thakkar, filmmaker Shruti Rya, journalist Swati G Sharma, climate behavioral scientist Sweta Chakraborty, and medical professional Megan L Sriniwas.

The annual gala, will also feature entertainers such as singer Ari Afsar and actor Nikhil Saboo, who will present the ‘Soundtrack of Progress: How Music Can Change the World.’ “Ari and Nikhil will teach attendees a powerful song about Impact’s mission, and collectively perform it with participants at the Summit closing plenary and Impact Gala,” the organizers said.

According to the announcement, the upcoming summit, held during Immigrant Heritage Month, will mark the centennial anniversary of the United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind (1923) decision—a landmark case, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Indians were ineligible for naturalized U.S. citizenship due to their non-white status.
