The Equity Committee of the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association (TFA) held a protest and solidarity screening of two films by Tamil poet and award-winning filmmaker Leena Manimekalai on Nov. 3, 2022. The films were Maadathy and Kaali.
The screening was a protest against the censorship and withdrawal of the film Kaali, which drew the ire of Hindutva supporters, from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Under the Tent program. Since the release of the film poster, the filmmaker has been facing death threats and violent abuses.
