Sikh marine recruits in US move court to keep beard, turban

A three-judge panel expressed skepticism that the Corps had any reason to deny religious exemptions to the Sikhs in terms of its grooming standards

Sikhs in US continue to struggle to keep their articles of faith -- the turban, beard & kirpan (a short ceremonial knife) -- in various arms of the American military.

Three Sikh recruits working to join the US Marine Corps have recently filed an emergency appeal in District of Columbia's federal court to be exempted from the Corps' boot camp rule of cutting their hair and shaving their beards.
