Sewa Diwali, a food drive organized by Dharmic communities across the country, has donated 630,000 pounds of food in the US this year, which benefited over 200 organizations from 32 states. Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS) volunteers supported the initiative which distributed food to food pantries, homeless shelters, worship houses and schools.
Sikh Gurudwaras, Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist temples, Yogic organizations, Inter-faith organizations, Indian American cultural and linguistic associations and thousands of families and individuals all over the country participated in the programme.
A news release noted, “several dharmic organizations such as
BAPS, Chinmaya Mission, Arya Samaj, Samskrita Bharati USA, and Sewa International collected food from their supporters."
Sewa Diwali has donated around 1.5 million pounds of food across the nation since its inception in 2018. It has reached over 200 cities and towns in 2022. Sewa Diwali, National Coordinator Anil Kothari said, “Into its fifth year now, SewaDiwali continues to bring people closer together for universal good.”
