Philadelphia Eagles' (American football team) named Indian American Sean Desai as the team's new defensive coordinator. Desai takes over from Jonathan Gannon, who was hired as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.
"His overall knowledge of football and football IQ are extremely high. Great detail. He's a really sharp coach. I'm excited that he's on our staff," head coach Nick Sirianni said.
In 2022, Desai was the defense associate head coach for the Seattle Seahawks. He began his career in the NFL in 2013 as the Bears' defensive backs, linebackers, and special teams quality control coach. Desai joined the Bears in 2019 as the safeties coach before being elevated to defensive coordinator in 2021.
Vic Fangio, John Fox, Mel Tucker, and Chuck Pagano were among the prominent defensive minds Desai trained under in Chicago. With the Bears, Desai served on three separate coaching staffs.
The NFL's 2023 season will mark Desai's 11th as a head coach. While pursuing his PhD in educational administration, he began his coaching career at Temple (2007–2010) as a graduate assistant for the defense and special teams.
