San Jose Sharks to host celebration of South Asian culture

The event will also feature activities including celebratory color throwing followed during Holi, a popular festival in India.

The San Jose Sharks will host its annual celebration of South Asian Culture at SAP Center in San Jose on March 11, 2023 during its game against the Minnesota Wilds at the SAP Center at San Jose.

The festivities will begin at 11 am outside the SAP Center on Barack Obama Blvd with a Holi celebration organised by the Uttar Pradesh Mandal of America (UPMA). Holi is a popular Hindu festival, also known as the "festival of colors."

Activities include celebratory color throwing, music and guided dancing what with delicious South Asian delicacies for the attendees. Dance and singing performances by local South Asian groups in the Hop Valley Bar located on the concourse level above the South Entrance at SAP Center will also be held.

The special guest for the game will be Indian actress, model and producer Huma Qureshi, who will drop the ceremonial first puck before the game begins, a news release noted.

The event will also feature south Asian-inspired artwork from local artist Chetna Mehta, and dance performances by Gurus of Dance, a Bollywood entertainment company in Milpitas. The national anthem will be sung by a local Indian singer.
