Several Indian American celebrities and prominent LGBTQ+ activists are joining hands on February 16 evening to celebrate the passage of the Respect For Marriage Act, which passed through the U.S. Congress on a bi-partisan vote and was signed into law last December by President Joe Biden.

The Respect For Marriage Act repeals the Defense of Marriage Act, which banned same-sex marriages. It requires all federal and state entities to recognize same-sex marriages and interracial marriages.

The “Pyar is Pyar” event will support the work of the non-profit organization Desi Rainbow Parents & Allies, which provides support to South Asian LGBTQ+ people and their families. The “by invitation only” celebration will be held at the Michelin-star restaurant Sona in Manhattan, New York, owned by Maneesh Goyal and actress Priyanka Chopra.
