Pramila Jayapal advances to November general election

She vowed to push for a humane immigration system that recognizes the contributions of immigrants.

Indian American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has advanced to the November general election in the race for Washington state's 7th Congressional District.

She secured more than 80% of the vote in the initial round of election returns released Aug. 4.

Under Washington state's top-two primary system, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes, regardless of party affiliation, advance to the general election in November.

Jayapal, a Democrat, has served since 2017 and is seeking her sixth term.

Following the results, Jayapal thanked voters of the 7th Congressional District for their support and pledged to continue pursuing what she described as a bold progressive agenda.

Jayapal also acknowledged the broad coalition that backed her re-election campaign, including labor unions, environmental groups, reproductive rights organizations, elected officials, local Democratic committees and volunteers. She said the support and year-round organizing efforts of volunteers had been instrumental in her campaign.

Outlining her priorities for the next term, Jayapal reiterated her commitment to campaign finance reform and policies aimed at supporting working families. She said she would continue advocating for affordable health care, lower living costs and expanded access to housing.

"I am deeply committed to fighting big money in politics, and to standing up for working people and poor people across this country who deserve to thrive, not just survive. I am fighting for health care as a human right and the ability to afford housing, groceries and gas."

Jayapal also reaffirmed her support for immigration reform, saying she would continue opposing what she described as the "cruelty" of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection while advocating for a more humane immigration system that recognizes immigrants' contributions. She also said she would continue opposing "forever wars" and push for U.S. taxpayer dollars to be spent on domestic priorities rather than overseas conflicts.

Calling the November election a pivotal moment, Jayapal said, "The stakes have never been higher," adding that Democrats have an opportunity to regain control of the House and Senate. She said her campaign would support efforts to help elect "a new class of strong, progressive candidates" across the country, while celebrating her primary victory as the next phase of the campaign begins.

This is the nastiest and ugliest woman anyone would come across. It is a shame that a person who is an immigrant has nothing but contempt for the USA. Every time she discusses something in the Congress, she keeps rattling rubbish and does not allow anyone to speak. She uses the platform to enhance her status quo. Yet whatever comes out of her mouth is vile and very stupid. She claims she is fighting for healthcare! Obamacare? This idiotic health policy costs more than the regular health policies in the United States at full price. If not for that fool who is in the Supreme Court, this would not have passed. Instead of interpreting the existing law, he wrote the law himself. That guy should have been impeached immediately. This woman claims she is working to improve the well-being of Washington State, an uber-leftist state. With her dumb policies, most of the large corporations are leaving Washington State due to their high corporate taxes. This is the only place she can win. No other state.
