The Mani Ratnam-directed Ponniyin Selvan is now the third-highest-grossing Indian film of the year, surpassing Bramhastra and Vikram. The movie has already surpassed the marks set by Brahmastra and Vikram by earning more than INR 450 crore globally. This is due to excellent box office results abroad.
According to trade sources cited by India’s English daily, The Hindustan Times, the film achieved a worldwide box office take of INR 455 crore as of September 17, with an astounding INR 161 crore ($20 million) coming from just international markets. Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan, has made INR 443 crore while Brahmastra, starring Ayan Mukerji, has grossed INR 431 crore.
