India Energy Week (IEW) 2023 was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Feb 6, in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The two-day event was a means to demonstrate the country's growing power as a leader in the energy transition.

On the occasion, PM Modi also announced the launch of the E20 Fuel and inaugurated a fuel dispenser. E20 is a gasoline blend that contains 20 percent ethanol. It will be made available at 84 retail outlets of Oil Marketing Companies in 11 States/Union territories.

"We are working very fast on ethanol blending and on bio fuels. We have increased ethanol blending in petrol from 1.5 percent to 10 percent in the last nine years. Now we are moving towards the target of 20 percent ethanol blending," the PM said. The government hopes to attain a full 20 percent ethanol mix by 2025, which was previously projected for 2030.
