China and India account for roughly 50 percent of all mobile traffic worldwide: Paytm CEO

India's total monthly mobile data traffic is poised to increase from 18 exabytes (EB) in 2022 to 53 EB in 2028 at a compounded annual growth rate of 19%.

Vijay Shekhar Sharma, CEO of Paytm, said on Dec.02 2022 that the entry of China and India, which now make up close to 50 percent of all mobile traffic worldwide, has caused the end of the American internet era.

"It's the end of American Internet as we knew it," he tweeted in reaction to a graph posted by business expert Benedict Evans. According to a graph posted on Twitter, China and India account for close to half of all mobile traffic worldwide. The Paytm CEO claimed that one of the primary reasons India's strict data governance law is timely is the increase in mobile traffic.
