Pamela Chopra, wife of legendary Indian filmmaker Yash Chopra, passed away at the age of 74 on April 20, 2023. She spent the previous 15 days at the Lilavati hospital in Mumbai, according to reports, where she was on life-support but her condition continued to worsen.
Yash Raj Films (YRF) shared a statement to confirm Pamela Chopra's death, "With heavy heart, the Chopra family would like to inform that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 am today in Mumbai. We are grateful for your prayers and the family would like to request for privacy in this moment of deep sadness and reflection (sic)."
A playback vocalist Pamela was also an independent screenwriter and producer. The last time she was filmed, she was talking about her husband the late Yash Chopra and his journey in the YRF documentary The Romantics. From Kabhie Kabhie (1976) through Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002), Pamela Chopra has performed various cinema songs, all of them have been for her husband's films.
The documentary also highlighted Pamela's contribution to the Hindi cinema business in addition to those made by her husband. Many Bollywood personalities who spoke in the show revealed that Yash frequently sought out his wife's opinions during his film-making process in order to understand a woman's viewpoint and bring them out in his female characters.
Pamela worked in the independent production of the 1993 movie Aaina. Along with her husband Yash Chopra, her son Aditya Chopra, and seasoned author Tanuja Chandra, Pamela also contributed to the writing of the 1997 film Dil To Pagal Hai. She has also made a single appearance on screen in the film Dil To Pagal Hai's opening song, Ek Duje Ke Vaaste.
The couple are survived by their two sons, Aditya and Uday Chopra. Aditya is a producer and director in the film industry, and Uday is an actor. Popular Indian actress, Rani Mukherjee is married to Aditya Chopra.
