Odisha nonprofit wins UNESCO Literacy Prize 2022 for Mother Tongue-Based Learning

KISS is the fifth institute from India and the first from Odisha to receive this international prize.

Odisha-based nonprofit, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has won the prestigious UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize 2022, the NGO announced on the occasion of International Literacy Day (September 8).

The international jury recognized KISS for its ‘Mother Tongue Based Multilingual Education’ programme that aims to tackle the problem of poor retention in native students due to classroom language barriers and teachers' incapacity to deal with multilingual and multicultural classrooms effectively.
