Indian Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik along with other Indian wrestlers have been staging a protest seeking the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over charges of sexual harassment.
The wrestlers first took to the streets in January demanding action against the MP, who has refuted claims that he sexually harassed several female athletes including a minor. The protest was withdrawn after Singh was stripped of all administrative power by the sports ministry, however, it resumed on April 23 with the wrestlers demanding Singh’s arrest.
The images of the wrestlers being manhandled by the police during their protest during the new parliament's inauguration by PM Modi on May 28 went viral on social media. Sakshi Malik posted a video on Twitter showcasing the horrific events that took place during the protest. “This is how our champions are being treated. The world is watching us! #WrestlersProtest,” she said.
