A new study led by Indian-origin physician Abhijeet Danve at Yale School of Medicine has found that a simple online questionnaire can significantly reduce delays in diagnosing axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), a common yet underrecognized cause of chronic back pain.
The findings, published in ‘Rheumatology Advances in Practice’, show that the new 'A-tool' identified potential cases of axSpA in nearly one in three people screened — a sixfold improvement over traditional detection rates. The tool is designed to help patients recognize symptoms and seek specialized care earlier, bypassing the years-long diagnostic delays that many currently face.
