A 21-year-old Indian girl adopted by an American couple has issued a desperate rescue appeal, alleging severe mistreatment, abuse and coercion by her adoptive parents.

Puja alias Sejal went missing as a child while travelling on a train, she was then rescued by Childline and placed in successive care homes for children before she was adopted by an American couple in 2018, as per media reports.

What was meant to be a golden opportunity for Puja has turned into a nightmare ordeal. She has alleged that her adoptive parents are mistreating her and forcing her to adopt Christianity. She, in a now viral video, has also appealed to the Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi to help her get back to India.

To make matters worse, Puja also revealed that her Visa had expired in 2023, leaving her stranded without legal documents.

“I humbly request the Odisha Chief Minister to bring me back home. I am tortured a lot here. I want to return to Odisha and find my real parents,” she said in the video, breaking down into tears.

Puja further alleged that her foster parents forcefully took away the money she earned while working during the holidays, leaving her unable to return to India.
