The team said the program will include dance and drumming segments by AVA Junior All Stars, ABA Bhangra All-Stars and WPAA Dhol Players. DJ Sanj, along with local DJs Hira, General B and KNISH, will provide music, while youth singer Simar Kaur will perform the national anthems.
Media personality Amber Saleem and comic and producer Nick Duggal will handle in-game hosting. Henna by Azma will offer designs on the concourse, and digital content created by students from Maples Collegiate will appear in the game presentation.
South Asian-inspired food items — among them paneer masala poutine, samosa chaat, butter chicken naan rolls, butter paneer pizza and a Chaat Jet Dog — will be available at concessions.
A scrimmage by participants from the NHL and NHLPA’s First Shift program is scheduled for intermission. The program is designed to make hockey more accessible to families new to the sport and includes many young players from Winnipeg’s South Asian community.
Autographed, team-issued South Asian Heritage jerseys will be auctioned online from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT on Dec. 5. Proceeds will go to Punjabi Community Health Services Manitoba, which works with South Asian and other underserved groups.
The Jets said South Asian Heritage merchandise will be sold through Jets Gear and the team’s online store. Tickets for the game are available on the team’s website.
