University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill's faculty chapter has urged the university's Board of Trustees to reverse its decision to reject Indian-origin scholar Kiran Asher's appointment, saying the move threatens academic freedom.
In a statement released June 5, the faculty group accused trustees of overriding recommendations made by academic experts without providing a public explanation for the decision.
