Special commemoration events were held at various Sikh temples and gurdwaras in Italy this weekend to mark the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur.
At most of the gurdwaras in Rome, Milan, Verona, and other cities, special akhand paths were organised to mark the occasion.
Following the Sikh Rehet Maryada, based on the tradition of 25 Singhs reciting Gurbani continuously from the sacred Sri Guru Granth Sahib, special kirtan durbars were held at the conclusion of Sri Akhand Paths. This Rehet Maryada was started by the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, at Damdama Sahib and is being followed religiously at most of the gurdwaras in Italy.
According to Prithipal Singh, president of the World Sikh Soldiers Yadgar Committee, a special congregation was organised by Sri Guru Singh Sabha Novel Lara in Reggio Emilia province.
The special program included discourses on life, teachings, and supreme sacrifices made by Guru Tegh Bahadur. Among those who addressed the gathering were Bhai Talwinder Singh and the raghi jatha of Bhai Jagmohan Singh.
After the religious ceremonies, the devout joined langar, the community kitchen, and made special prayers for communal harmony, universal brotherhood, peace, and amity.
