Sewa International’s Houston chapter hosted its Senior Sewa Diwali celebration on Nov. 9 at Sri Sharadamba Temple in Richmond, drawing over 200 seniors, volunteers, and community members for a program focused on devotion, culture, and community bonding.
The event opened with prayers and aarti led by the temple priest, followed by Prakash Ramachandran explaining the meaning and significance behind the rituals. A Ganesh Vandana dance performance by Uma Nagarseth set an engaging tone for the rest of the program.
Sewa International–Houston Chapter president Pranav Loyalka welcomed attendees and acknowledged the community’s continued support. The organization recognized Umang Mehta and Somir Paul for their contributions to Sewa’s family services work. Student volunteers, dressed in yellow Sewa T-shirts, assisted with registration, greeted guests with tilak, and supported activities throughout the day.

Attendee Manju Gupta praised the volunteers’ dedication, saying, “The whole event was orchestrated beautifully. Volunteers were continuously serving everyone—what a comfort to have water brought right to the table!”
Cultural performances remained a highlight, with lively bhangra and garba segments led by Jasmeeta, Ruby, and Paresh Jasani that encouraged audience participation. A keynote address by Dasika, titled “Sewa, Retirement, and the Road to Happiness,” focused on purposeful living and service as pathways to fulfillment.
Guests enjoyed appetizers and lunch, while a food donation drive underscored the celebration’s emphasis on giving back. “The joy on each and every senior’s face cannot be put into words,” said Kavita Tewary, executive director of Sewa International–Houston Chapter.
The event concluded with strong participation and shared enthusiasm, reinforcing Senior Sewa Diwali 2025 as a successful gathering centered on devotion, cultural unity, and the enduring spirit of sewa.
