Urban Negi, a 9-year-old footballer of Indian origin from South East London, has signed with the Everton FC Academy after drawing attention for his performances at the grassroots level. Everton confirmed the move after Negi impressed coaches during trials at Finch Farm, the club’s youth training base.
Negi first came into view at age 7 while playing for Dynamo Youth FC, a local club known for developing young players. His skill and composure earned him regular recognition, eventually leading to the invitation to train with Everton’s youth setup.
Videos circulating on social media show Negi controlling the ball with ease, dribbling past opponents and maintaining calm under pressure. The clips have gained attention in India, where representation in Premier League systems remains uncommon.
Negi follows Everton closely and looks up to the club’s No. 10, Iliman Ndiaye. The forward’s creativity has made him a popular figure among young fans, including Negi.
Club officials indicated that Negi’s signing aligns with Everton’s broader focus under new technical director Nick Cox. The academy has placed added emphasis on identifying strong prospects early. Recent recruitment efforts include advertising for national scouts and outlining the club’s expectations for its pre-academy program. In its description for a recruitment role, the club said the position would help identify top U8 players each season and support “a world-class experience for both players and parents” while retaining high-potential talent.
