Indian Consulate touts space cooperation with U.S. at Houston event
Consul General D.C. Manjunath cited the Shubhanshu Shukla-led Axiom mission and India's expanding space sector as drivers of future collaboration.

India's Consul General in Houston, D.C. Manjunath, highlighted growing opportunities for India-US cooperation in the space sector during a Houston forum on June 8.
The remarks came at “Leadership in Orbit: A Distinguished CEO Fireside Chat,” which featured a conversation between Axiom Space CEO Dr. Jonathan Cirtain and Steve Kean, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Partnership.

In his closing remarks, Manjunath said India's space ecosystem is entering a new era of opportunity, pointing to the achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the upcoming NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission, and the opening of India's commercial space sector.

He also noted the significance of the recent Axiom mission to the International Space Station, which included Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla.
Shukla became the first Indian astronaut to visit the International Space Station and only the second Indian to travel to space after Rakesh Sharma. He served as pilot on Axiom Mission 4, a commercial mission operated by Axiom Space in partnership with NASA and SpaceX.
Manjunath said Houston's leadership in the global space economy provides a natural bridge for deeper India-US collaboration in areas such as human spaceflight, advanced manufacturing, robotics, space medicine and next-generation research platforms.
The Consul General also expressed appreciation to the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (IACCGH) and the Greater Houston Partnership for organizing the event. He acknowledged Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia for his continued engagement with the Indian community and support for India-US collaboration in innovation and technology.
The Consulate General of India in Houston added that it looks forward to continued partnership with Axiom Space, IACCGH, the Greater Houston Partnership and other stakeholders working to advance collaboration in the sector.
