‘Boundaries — Breaking Barriers One Game at a Time’ is an upcoming feature film that tells the story of women in sports, specifically cricket, from diasporic communities and their journeys and struggles.

This sports drama, directed by Kirandeep Karnati, revolves around women in suburban California taking up cricket.

After its teaser was screened at a couple of film festivals and published on YouTube and Instagram, the film appears to have reignited conversations around women playing cricket, a sport long viewed as predominantly male.

The teaser includes rapid cuts, action on the cricket pitch, emotional stand-offs and a cast of mostly South Asian women, portraying a story about breaking boundaries on and off the cricket ground.

Speaking about the upcoming film, Karnati said, “Boundaries is a film that speaks to the heart of human resilience and the power of unity. It is a story about breaking stereotypes and redefining roles within a community.”

“Boundaries puts a spotlight on stories we don’t often see in sports films. It encourages viewers to see things from a new perspective and challenges how we view women and immigrants in sports and in society,” said Unni Rav, cinematographer and founder of Visual Narrative Films.

“As viewers follow a determined group of women reclaiming their independence through cricket, they’ll experience a story of transformation, humor and triumph that invites everyone to question their own limits,” said producer Olga Gabris.

‘Boundaries’ was filmed in Mountain House in the spring of this year and is slated for a 2026 release. The film has brought in investors from Northern California, a production crew from the Bay Area, and a cast made up largely of film actors and theater artists from different parts of the United States.

A full trailer and release date for this collaboration between Visual Narrative Films and Karnati Kreations will be announced soon.
