The Foundation of Indian Americans (FIA) – New England marked Veterans Day on Nov. 9 with a celebration honoring veterans and launching a regional food drive in partnership with American Legion Post 234 and Boros Care for Troops (BC4T).
The event at the American Legion Post in Northborough included a Veterans Day Parade, a tribute ceremony, and the start of FIA’s New England Veterans Food Drive to benefit the BC4T Veterans Food Pantry.
The parade featured a large American flag flown along Main Street and was led by World War II Army vehicles. Local schoolchildren, families, and community organizations followed, marching to honor veterans’ service and sacrifice.
After the parade, a ceremony at the American Legion office formally opened the food donation drive. The ribbon-cutting was led by World War II veteran Frank Brown, BC4T President Karen Brewster, Post 234 Adjutant Max Strickland, Edgar Blanchette, and community representatives Ram Gupta, Sivendra-Sita Singh, and Anand Kumar Tiwari.
Community members and local dignitaries attended, including Manny and Lovely Singh, Prabhu G., and FIA executive members Rakesh Kavsari, Amol Penshanwar, Chanukya Rao, and Hiten Bhawsar.
Children also played a part in the celebration, serving pizza to veterans. The young volunteers — including Joshika Prabhugee, Tisha Singh, Saisa Sharma, Abhuday Singh, Ranuday Singh, Shanaya Dey Soni, Parth Agarwal, Vaishnavi Bhawsar, Pragna Kavsari Rakesh, Amika Tiwari, and Aayushi Das Gupta — were praised for their enthusiasm, which added warmth to the community gathering.
Abhishek Singh, president of FIA New England, thanked veterans and partner organizations for their collaboration. “It is an honor for FIA to stand alongside our veterans and support them through this food drive,” Singh said. “We thank BC4T and American Legion Post 234 for this collaboration that brings our communities closer in gratitude and service.”
Brewster commended FIA’s efforts to support veterans. “FIA’s efforts show the power of community and compassion,” she said. “We deeply appreciate their dedication to helping our veterans.”
The event also gave children the opportunity to meet World War II veterans and learn about their experiences firsthand. The FIA New England Veterans Food Drive will continue in the coming weeks, collecting nonperishable food items to assist veterans and their families across the region.
