Canada expresses solidarity with India after Delhi Red Fort blast
Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada “stands with the people of Delhi and India” following the deadly explosion near the Red Fort.

The High Commission of Canada in India on Nov. 12 shared a message from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressing condolences and solidarity with India after a deadly car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi.
“I was shocked to hear of the devastating car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi,” Prime Minister Carney said in a statement posted on X by the Canadian High Commission. “I offer my deepest condolences to the loved ones of those who were killed in this horrific explosion and wish a fast and full recovery to all who were injured.”

Reaffirming Canada’s support, Carney added, “Canada stands with the people of Delhi and India during this time of mourning.”

The explosion, which occurred on Nov. 10 near the Red Fort, has now claimed 13 lives and left at least 19 others injured, according to police reports.
The blast took place in a crowded area close to a metro station entrance, triggering a fire that destroyed multiple vehicles and shattered windows in nearby buildings. Authorities identified the vehicle involved as a white Hyundai i20, which reportedly exploded while stopped at a traffic signal.
The Delhi Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act, and the investigation has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The Government of India has formally declared the incident a “terrorist attack,” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the “conspirators will not be spared.”
Security across the National Capital Region—including Noida and Ghaziabad—has been tightened, with additional patrols, vehicle checks, and digital surveillance to curb misinformation.
