Diljit Dosanjh-led ‘Detective Sherdil’ to premiere on ZEE5 on June 20

The long-awaited mystery-comedy marks the OTT debut of Maurya Entertainment bringing together a star-studded ensemble.

Indian actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh returns to the spotlight with Detective Sherdil, a family-friendly mystery-comedy set to premiere on ZEE5 on June 20.

Directed by Ravi Chhabriya, Detective Sherdil tells the story of a charismatic investigator who finds himself entangled in a puzzling case, blending classic whodunit tropes with comedic flair. The film also stars Diana Penty, Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah, Chunky Panday, Banita Sandhu, and Sumeet Vyas.

The release marks Maurya Entertainment’s entry into Indian cinema, building on the success of its U.S.-based parent company, Astro Lion Pictures. Founded by Rohini Singh, Manmeet Singh and Paramdeep Singh, Astro Lion has already made its mark in Hollywood with a slate of internationally focused productions.

Speaking on the company’s Indian debut Co-founder Manmeet Singh said “Detective Sherdil is the perfect entry into Indian cinema for us. It’s fun, cinematic, unexpected, and fronted by one of the most versatile stars of our generation. This film reflects our creative ethos: bold, fresh, and made for today’s audiences.”

The screenplay has been co-written by Ali Abbas Zafar, Sagar Bajaj, and director Chhabariya. Zafar, who also serves as co-producer under his banner Offside Entertainment, previously worked with Dosanjh on the critically-acclaimed film Jogi.

Originally filmed in Budapest, the movie was completed several years ago but never saw a theatrical release, making its OTT arrival highly anticipated among fans. The official poster and release date were unveiled by ZEE5 on June 8, showcasing Dosanjh in character, with the tagline “Sherdil Aa Gaya Oye.”
