Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has officially secured the endorsement of Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman, further solidifying his frontrunner status in the 2026 Ohio governor’s race.

Huffman, who represents Lima and Allen County, announced his support following what he described as months of listening to Ramaswamy’s vision for the state. “I have concluded that Ramaswamy will be a governor who will make bold plans and certainly have the courage to execute on those plans,” Huffman said in a public statement.

Reflecting on his legislative experience, Huffman emphasized the crucial role governors play in driving long-term reform. He recalled a 2012 school choice conference hosted by the Milton Friedman Institute, where former Indiana Superintendent of Education Tony Bennett argued that lasting policy change can only be led by governors—an observation Huffman said had been confirmed during his 16 years in the Ohio General Assembly.

Huffman praised Ramaswamy’s emphasis on individual liberty, economic freedom, and his commitment to reducing dependence on government. He described the candidate as a bold leader willing to challenge the status quo.

The endorsement comes as Ramaswamy’s campaign gains historic momentum. On July 1, his team announced it had raised $9.7 million since launching in late February—the largest first-quarter fundraising total ever recorded by a gubernatorial candidate in Ohio history. The campaign noted that the amount did not include any personal contributions from Ramaswamy, underscoring widespread grassroots support.

Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and former 2024 Republican presidential candidate, has also received endorsements from key GOP figures including President Donald Trump, U.S. Senator JD Vance, Donald Trump Jr., the Ohio Republican Party’s State Central Committee, and every Republican member of the state’s congressional delegation.

Since February, his campaign says it has hosted more than 50 events statewide, including 36 fundraisers on behalf of the GOP, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support down-ballot Republican candidates and party infrastructure.

He is running to succeed Republican Governor Mike DeWine, who is term-limited. On the Democratic side, former Ohio Health Director Amy Acton has declared her candidacy. Republican Attorney General Dave Yost withdrew from the race in May, shortly after the state GOP formally endorsed Ramaswamy.
