Navjot Sawhney wins UK PM’s Point of Light Award

Navjot named his washing machines after his neighbour, Divya and set up ‘The Washing Machine Project’ to manufacture his ‘Divya’ devices on a wider scale.

An Indian- origin Sikh has been conferred the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Point of Light Award for his ‘ Washing Machine Project’ which empowers women by providing them with an alternative solution to manual washing.

London-born Navjot Sawhney is an engineer, whose hand-cranked washing machine is benefitting over 1,000 families without access to an electric machine in underdeveloped countries or refugee camps, including humanitarian aid centers in Poland for Ukrainian refugees.
