National Award and Padma Shri award-winning veteran Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee is all set to promote his upcoming movie at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), in New York City which will run between Thursday, May 11 to Sunday, May 14. NYIFF is the oldest annual film event that caters to the Indian diaspora in North America since its inaugural season in 2001.
Speaking of Bajpayee’s film, the courtroom drama is titled Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. It is slated for a May 23 release on Zee5 Global, an OTT platform created especially for South Asian content. Bajpayee will appear in the movie in the role of high court lawyer P.C. Solanki.
The premise of the movie revolves around Bajpayee’s character, who battled several odds independently while fighting an extraordinary criminal case against the country’s prominent godman, till he successfully prosecutes him for the rape of a minor under the POCSO act. The movie is directed by Apoorva Singh Karki who has several OTT series to his credit. The trailer is available on Zee5’s YouTube channel and Bajpayee’s Instagram page and reveals that the movie is inspired by true events. It was officially launched in Mumbai, India on May 8.
On being asked what inspired him to take on this impactful role, Bajpayee said, “It is not only a great dramatic piece that we can write but also somewhere being a daughter’s father it kind of compelled me to be a part of it from the beginning and I thank (producer) Vinod ji and (writer) Suparn for giving me this opportunity.”
Bajpayee said Bandaa tells the story of an ordinary lawyer as well as a 16-year-old girl who “stood her ground and never let her spine disappear. It’s because of her that P.C. Solanki went on fighting the case.”
