NJ Senate Committee passes bill to update data collection of immigrant communities

New Jersey has over 1 million AANHPI residents however the exact number of certain groups under this category cannot be determined under current collection methods.

The legislation introduced by New Jersey Senator Vin Gopal and Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz that urges state agencies to update demographic collection methods on immigrant communities was unanimously passed by the State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee.

The bill requires that all state departments conduct a review, and if necessary update demographic collection methods on Asian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, North African and South Asian and Indian Diaspora residents in New Jersey.
