Indian American editor offers to resign to help others continue

Peter Bhatia, a seven-time Pulitzer jury member who oversaw newsrooms that garnered 10 Pulitzer Awards, including six in Portland, has offered to quit to prevent his employees from being laid off.

Currently Detroit Free Press’ chief editor, Bhatia informed his workers on Dec.23 2022 that he would be leaving the organization early in the following year so that Gannett, the owner could use the money thus saved to reduce the number of layoffs.
