Prominent Indian activists Feb. 9 spoke out against the alleged unlawful detainment of Kashmiri journalist Fahad Shah, and noted that religious minorities have faced a growing hostility from Hindu nationalists ever since the advent of the Modi administration.
Shah, editor of The Kashmir Walla, an independent news platform, was arrested Feb. 4 and has been jailed since then, without formal charges brought against him. His next hearing is on Feb. 15, said Annapurna Menon, a doctoral researcher and visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster, at a briefing organized by the Indian American Muslim Council. She noted that the 33-year-old journalist could face life in prison if he is convicted.
