External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said that the world cannot let another "9/11 of New York" or "26/11 of Mumbai" to happen again, emphasizing that battling terrorism is a battle in which there is no respite.
After presiding over a significant conference on the "Global Counterterrorism Approach: Challenges and Way Forward" convened during India's Council chairmanship, Jaishankar spoke to reporters at the UN's main headquarters.
"Attention deficits or tactical compromises are unacceptable in the world. The Security Council should take the initiative in organizing the international reaction in this area,” the minister said.
He emphasized how India, which is serving as this year's chair of the Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee, had to deal with the horrors of cross-border terrorism long before the rest of the world took it seriously.
