IndiGo, one of India's leading budget airlines, recently announced its plan to introduce new international routes from Bhubaneswar to Singapore and Bangkok. The new flights scheduled to commence on June 3, 2023, offer a more affordable and convenient travel option for passengers travelling to and from Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The airline's announcement comes after it launched the first international flight from Bhubaneswar to Dubai, which started operations on May 15, 2023.
The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, announced the opening of bookings for the new routes, with fares starting at INR 15,000. "These new connections to Bangkok and Singapore from Bhubaneswar will not only reduce travel time but also enhance global connectivity from the state. The enhanced accessibility will increase trade and tourism, benefit our people and help us realise our goal of new Odisha," he said.
Vinay Malhotra, IndiGo's head of Global Sales, expressed his delight at the launch of these new routes, saying, "We are pleased to announce the launch of new exclusive international routes from Bhubaneswar. IndiGo has been at the forefront of enhancing international connectivity, and these new flights to Singapore and Bangkok will encourage tourism and trade in the city and the state."
These new routes are expected to not only boost tourism but also strengthen trade links between Odisha and Bangkok and Singapore. Electronics, chemicals, petroleum refining, and tourism were some of the major sectors of these two destinations. The increased accessibility to these destinations would also allow Odisha to establish itself as one of the leading destinations for medical tourism.
