Medical tourism refers to the movement of patients from their country to other countries in search of better medical care and facilities. In recent years, India is gaining significance as a popular medical tourism destination.
According to the Ministry of Tourism 186,644 medical tourists arrived in India during 2020, accounting for 7 percent of the total foreign tourists arrivals. Reports point out that the Southern states ( Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) receive the majority of foreign patients.
These patients come mainly from counties like Bangladesh, Iraq, Maldives, Afghanistan, Oman, Yemen, Sudan, Kenya, and Nigeria.
