Indians today have emerged as a “brand name” in the United States, Dr. Ravi Kolli, president of the influential American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) said acknowledging the hard work and health care services provided by Indian American physicians over the past several decades.

The largest ethnic medical organization in the US, AAPI represents close to 120,000 Indian origin physicians who settled in the States since 1970s, and late 60s. According to Dr Kolli, it was during those times that a large wave of immigrant, especially Indian physicians immigrated to the US due to the expansion of the US Social Security and Medicare system.
