An Indian origin structural engineer has been awarded an honorary degree from Northumbria University, Newcastle for her contributions in designing The Shard, London’s landmark 95-story high skyscraper which is the tallest building in Western Europe.

An award-winning engineer, author and broadcaster, Roma Agarwal’s first project after graduating was designing and developing the footbridge that crosses Newcastle Central Motorway.

The bridge was installed in 2007, linking Northumbria University’s east and west city campuses and providing a safe pedestrian and cycle route into the center of Newcastle.
