Indian American Zohaib Zo Qadri won a seat on the Austin City Council from District 9 in last week's runoff election. He is the first Muslim to be elected to the council, according to news reports.
Qadri defeated Linda Guerrero after winning 51 percent of the votes and shared his excitement on Twitter. He will be sworn in on January 6, 2023.
