"Took 17 years to become a citizen," Indian American Rep Pramila Jayapal tells US house

The Indian American pointed out that the current wait time for Indians to get a green card is 200 years while for individuals from other countries it is two years or less.

Indian American lawmaker Pramila Jayapal rose in strong support of the Eagle Act in the US House of Representatives. The Eagle Act or the Equal Access to Green Cards for Legal Employment proposes a 15 per cent green card limit instead of a 7 per cent per-country limit.

Sharing her experience of being an H-1B visa holder in America, the US Representative from Washington’s Congressional district said, “I believe, I may be the only one or one of very few members of Congress who has actually been on an H-1B visa.”
