India to introduce chip based e- passport soon: MEA official

Indian government is also working on a new bill to address the issues linked to immigration and a bill will be submitted to parliament very soon said the MEA official.

Indian government is set to launch a chip based e-passport in the next  three to four months,  Dr. Ausaf Sayeed - Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India said at the launch of National India Hub, India Chapter in Delhi on January 12, 2023.

“We are coming with a chip based e-passport in the coming three to four month as one of the new initiatives to make the Indian passport more acceptable and powerful worldwide,” he asserted.
