India to allow foreign universities to setup campuses in country

According to the rules, only a foreign university which ranks among the top 500 universities in the world or an educational institution of repute in native country can apply to the UGC to set up campus in India.

With an aim to internationalize higher education in India, the Indian government has drafted a policy, with rules and regulations to allow foreign educational institutions and universities to setup campuses in the country.

The draft norms for allowing foreign universities to operate in the country has been published by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the statutory Indian body to coordinate, maintain and determine standards of higher education in India.
