India expresses concern over safety of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities

The nuclear plant was occupied by Russian forces shortly after the start of the war, but Ukrainian personnel continue to carry out their on-site operations.

Amid the ongoing Russia Ukraine conflict, India expressed its concern for the safety and security of the nuclear facilities in Ukraine, saying that a small incident could have “disastrous consequences”.

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) briefing on Ukraine, Ruchira Kambhoj, Indian ambassador to United Nations, made the comment in light of the escalating shelling in and around the Zaporizhya Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s  largest nuclear plant, in Ukraine.
