One of India’s premier institutes, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) and the University of Buffalo, USA (UB) have partnered to enrich research in biomedicine and bioengineering, an official statement noted.
In this regard, a cooperation agreement was signed by the director of IIT Kanpur, professor Abhay Karandikar and provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs, University of Buffalo, professor A. Scott Weber.
As per the agreement, the institutions will establish the IITK-UB Joint Center of Excellence in biomedicine and bioengineering at the IIT premises. The center will facilitate long-term collaboration in education and research between the two institutions as well as other institutions, the release added.
‘The Center of Excellence aims to develop materials & technologies for bioscience applications and facilitate long-term joint research collaborations. We are confident that this Center would provide several opportunities to our researchers, faculty and students in taking forward research in these core areas,’ Karandikar said on the occasion.
The collaboration would facilitate the exchange of students and researchers between IIT Kanpur and the University at Buffalo; along with facilitating collaborative research and training programs; joint conferences, thematic workshops and the exchange of scholarly material.
The two varisities signed a Joint Degree Program was signed in 2017, to provide research opportunities for selected doctoral students at the partner institute and earn two degrees, one each from IITK and UB.
