Hyderabadi Haleem, the mouth-watering Arabic dish introduced in the south Indian state of Hyderabad during the rule of Nizams, has bagged the ‘Most Popular Geographical Indicator (GI)’ tag, relegating to the background other dainty food items like the famous Rasogolla, Bikaneri Bhujiya and Ratlami Sev.
A rich aromatic stew composed of meat, lentils and pounded wheat made into a thick paste, the Hyderabadi Haleem was selected for the award by India’s ministry of commerce and industry on the basis of public opinion sought recently.
