The Mahakumbh, returning after 12 years, is set to begin on January 14 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Extensive arrangements have been made, including the construction of numerous pavilions and tents. The fabric for these structures has been sourced from Surat's renowned cloth market. Over the past month, 10 to 15 lakh meters of cloth have been transported from Surat to Prayagraj, generating a business turnover of ₹50 crores for Surat's mandap and cloth traders. Among the materials, saffron-colored cloth has seen the highest demand for the grand event.
