Getty acquires photo collection of India and South Asia under British rule

The collection will be catalogued over the course of several years and made available to its researchers, the GRI said in a statement.

The Getty Research Institute (GRI) has acquired a significant collection of Indian and South Asian photographs from Ken and Jenny Jacobson which gives a glimpse into the social and cultural landscape under British rule.

The 4,625 images in the collection depict the 19th and early 20th-century people, the social customs, religious practices, architecture of India and South Asia during the colonial times.
