Indian Arm-wrestler Afiya Khan qualified to represent India at the World Championship to be held in France in September 2022 and Asian Championship to be held in Malaysia in June 2022, after winning three silver medals in three different categories at the Second National Arm-wrestling Championship held during 18-20 May 2022 in Goa.
However, financial constraints prevented Afiya from representing India at the Asian Championship in Malaysia. Having lost her father long ago, Afiya has no earning member in her family.
Talking about her situation the wrestler from Dibrugarh district of Assam said, “After the demise of my father (the head and the only earning member of our family) life has become more challenging. Although, I never thought of quitting games but yes, I had to take some breaks to make myself mentally strong and again join the practice for the next event.”
