Senthil Subramanian / GS1 US
Indian-origin technology executive Senthil Subramanian, principal engineer and area technical lead at Google, was inducted as a new member of the GS1 U.S. Board of Governors on May 21.
The GS1 US Board of Governors comprises senior executives from major companies across the retail, technology, healthcare, logistics, grocery, and consumer goods sectors, and helps shape strategies related to barcode standards, product identification, supply chain visibility, and interoperable business data systems used across global commerce.

Subramanian joins the board at a time when industries are increasingly relying on standardized and interoperable data systems to manage supply chains and digital commerce platforms.
“At a time when supply chains are being reshaped by digital transformation and rising complexity, these leaders bring invaluable perspective to help industry advance large-scale data management, supply chain operations and global logistics,” said Bob Carpenter, president and CEO of GS1 US.
At Google, Subramanian oversees the Shopping Graph, the company’s large-scale product data platform that powers shopping experiences across Google Search, YouTube, advertising, and related services. His role focuses on maintaining the integrity, coverage, freshness, and accuracy of product datasets and offers used across Google’s commerce ecosystem.
Commenting on his appointment, Subramanian said evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, agentic commerce, and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) are increasing the importance of trusted product identity and GS1 standards in digital commerce.
“Excited to collaborate with leaders across industries as a GS1 US Board Member to help shape the future of connected commerce and interoperable data standards,” he said.
Before joining Google in 2021, Subramanian spent nearly two decades at Yahoo and Verizon Media in senior engineering and architecture roles. His work included leading advertising infrastructure, targeting systems, exchange and publisher ad-serving platforms, and inventory forecasting technologies.
He was also a founding member of the original Hadoop team, contributing to the advancement of open-source big data infrastructure during the early growth of large-scale internet platforms.
Subramanian holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Dallas and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from University of Madras. He also completed the Engineering Leadership Professional Program at University of California, Berkeley.
The newly elected members will help guide GS1 US strategy as the organization works to expand the adoption of GS1 Standards across retail commerce, healthcare, supply chain management, and consumer experiences.
