Air India introduced a series of new features on its mobile app, expanding its digital services with new booking, payment and passenger support capabilities aimed at improving the travel experience.

The airline said the latest update includes an in-house booking engine and payment platform, allowing customers to search for flights, complete bookings and purchase ancillary services through a redesigned interface.

The app also now provides contextual assistance during flight disruptions, including information on hotel accommodation and ground transportation when applicable.

The rollout is part of Air India's broader digital transformation strategy, with the airline integrating booking, payments, airport services, baggage tracking, loyalty management and AI-powered customer support into a single platform.

"Our mobile app is our flagship channel for engaging with guests," said Satya Ramaswamy, Air India's chief digital and technology officer. "The latest enhancements further simplify the travel experiencep–from booking and payments to airport processes and disruption support–while giving guests more transparency, convenience and control."

The update also expands several existing features. The redesigned home screen now displays upcoming trips, boarding passes and travel offers, while the My Trips section allows passengers to manage bookings, select seats and meals, and make itinerary changes without contacting customer support.

According to the airline, its Flight Status feature is used more than 1.4 million times each month, while more than 220,000 customers use the app's DigiYatra integration monthly for airport processing.

Air India said its AI.g virtual assistant has answered more than 26 million customer queries since its launch.

The app also includes EZ Booking, which generates travel itineraries from text prompts, and an enhanced baggage tracking feature that allows passengers to monitor checked luggage, including on codeshare and interline flights, with support for Apple AirTag and Google-compatible tracking devices.

Additional features include AEye Vision, which uses computer vision to retrieve travel information, offline access to selected services such as Flight Status, My Trips and baggage tracking, and a dedicated section for managing Maharaja Club loyalty benefits.

Air India said the app has been downloaded nearly 17 million times globally, serves more than 100,000 users daily and holds a 4.8-star rating on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in India.
